The Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care offers:
► Standardized curriculum
► Participants representing a wide variety of backgrounds including volunteers, support workers, social workers, pharmacists, chaplains, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, registered practical nurses, registered nurses, physicians, and dietitians
► An interdisciplinary group to explore and support each other's role and contributions to enhance the delivery of hospice palliative care
► A comprehensive learning and development strategy for the learner
► Development of palliative care knowledge through a case-based/learning- through-dialogue approach in the classroom
► An interactive, multimedia approach that is firmly based on adult learning concepts and best practices.

This is a 30 hour course
over 8 weeks which includes
a 3 hour class each week and
6 hours of practical training consisting of the completion of practical application forms each week recording the transfer of knowledge to practice.
The Fundamentals program is based on
“A Model to Guide Hospice Palliative Care:
Based on National Principles and Norms of
Practice”, 2002
The Fundamentals is funded by the
Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
through the Community and Facility Palliative
Care Interdisciplinary Education Service and
is currently recognized throughout Southwestern Ontario and rolling out in 8 of the 14 LHIN areas. |
Fundamentals Attendance Policy
The first class is mandatory or the participant must withdraw.
100% attendance and completion of all practical application forms is required in order to receive a certificate.
If you know that you are going to miss one or more classes, it is the participant's responsibility to make up the missed class. If you are making up a missed class or switching classes, please contact the Network to make arrangements.
